Trans Siberian Orchestra Leave $10, 000 Tip in Omaha

Employees at Sullivan's Steakhouse this week were singing a happier tune - think "We're in the Money'' - after a member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra reportedly left them a five-figure tip.

Sullivan's front-of-house manager, Damon Ronfeldt, said members of the band and its crew, rehearsing in the area before launching their nationwide winter tour Saturday at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, had frequented the downtown Omaha restaurant during the previous two and a half weeks.

Toward the end of their stay, Ronfeldt said Monday, "one of the individuals in the band left a substantial tip for everybody in the restaurant -- excluding management, of course.''

Ronfeldt said restaurant policy prevented him from confirming or denying the rumored $10,000 amount.

"But it was quite substantial, and you're about right on,'' he said. "It was the largest tip we've had by far.''

In an Oct. 23 interview with The World-Herald, orchestra artistic director Al Pitrelli said he and his wife, pianist Jane Mangini, were enjoying the Old Market during their stay. He also said they had eaten at Sullivan's a lot and mentioned that "Tommy'' -- the restaurant's manager, Tom Krajewski -- had been very good to them.

"It's one of those places that they're friendly and they're nice,'' Pitrelli said.

Apparently, it pays to be nice. Ronfeldt said employees at the restaurant were "all smiles'' Monday.

The orchestra's Web site does not detail its crew size, but lists 48 band members and three composers. Ronfeldt said the band and crew came in parties of 20 or 40 or more most nights during their 19-day stay and also placed takeout orders.

Makes you want to run out and get a serving job just in case they head to your eating hole!!!
