Remembering the Plane That Crashed in North Park San Diego

Many people don't know that a small private Cessna plane and huge commercial airliner collided over North Park (Dwight&Nile) and crashed to the ground. Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 182 crashed down on September 25th 1978 killing all 135 people on board, the 2 men aboard the Cessna, and seven people on the ground (including a family of four). Nine others on the ground were injured and 22 homes were destroyed or damaged. The death toll of 144 makes it the deadliest aircraft disaster in California history to date and it was the first Pacific Southwest Airlines incident involving fatalities. On September 25, 1998, a tree was planted next to the North Park library, featuring this simple memorial plaque. The library is located blocks from the actual crash site.
