HACER, VICE, and ASR Weekend

ASR Weekend is upon us. Say what you will, I NEVER get tired of seeing tall hot skaters roam around our downtown for 3 Days twice a year for the Action, Sports, Retail Convention Downtown. There are shows, new people, parties and drink specials all over town from lame nights at smoozy places downtown to Anti-ASR Parties at Tower Bar in City Heights. Here are two events I will be hitting up, they are in walking distance (Only Seven Blocks Apart!) from each other and one right after the other. It will be fun to have a reason other than Lotus Thai and Pokez hankerings to be anywhere near the Gaslamp Area. If you've been talking shit about Gaslamp for years and plan on shunning ASR like you do every year try something new and make it out to these sure-to-be-fun/hot-skater-laden-events!! They aren't in the heart of Downtown they are off the beaten path in East Village so calm down, It's going to be interesting either way!

Luce Loft (1037 J Street in East Village) is beautiful and this is a great way to start your night off with food and pre party drinks! Proceeds go to charity and word on the street is there will be round the clock pinata beatings!! More info on the Sezio Website

Right after Hacer head over (walk off some of that alcohol, these events are seven blocks apart!) to new downtown haunt El Dorado (Sticks and Stones Feature) for the Vice Party. This will most likely be a huge hipster/skater smooze fest but could be fun as they usually throw a crazy party! Also our own Ikah Love is DJing and he has never let me down on the dance floor! I'm going to people watch and I haven't checked out El Dorado yet, this will be perfect timing. Make sure and e-mail the address on the flier to reserve your spot at this one! Live performances by Saviours and Annihilation Time (1030 Broadway&11th Ave)

Grand Re-opening of Subtext, Tonight!!

Opening Reception: Friday, Jan. 16th, 6-10pm, Live Music from The Traditionist at 9pm

The sketchier (and therefore WAY more hip) side of Little Italy just got a whole lot cooler as
Subtext moves from it's Cedar street location to 2479 Kettner and Laurel right across from The Casbah. They've teamed up with local promoting force Sezio to put on what should be a fun event. Bands (The Tradionist), art (Wonderful photography exhibit by Frank Rogozienski called 366 | 08), cool people and the belly of a plane soaring right over you into the San Diego skyline. This is going to be a great time!

Thursday Night Thing

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6
PARALLEL LINES
Memory Is Your Image of Perfection artist Susan Silton works in various lines of media, including photographic-based processes, video, installation, and offset lithography. Hear Silton discuss her work, currently on view at MCASD Downtown's 1001 Kettner galleries.

The artist's large-scale chromogenic prints fuse together colorful vertical stripes with mid-century apocalyptic film stills that responded to U.S. fears during the Cold War. Playing off the fear and tension of current political and economic times, pose for the camera with your most frightened face. Then, using the printed photo and a vibrant, transparent veil of vertical stripes, create your own Silton-inspired photographic souvenir.

Plus, live music on the plaza, featuring the heavy rock of local favorites Transfer; psychedelic pop by Tucson-based Holy Rolling Empire; and DJ Skullcrusher playing a mix of electro and alternative.

Voting Shwag!!

Here are all the places hooking you up for voting! I guess it's actually illegal to give free stuff for voting so now you lame ass non voters (unless you legally can't) can treat yourself to the items below:
Due to possible conflict with election laws in various states, most are not requiring proof of voting. The free offers:

•Coffee. Starbucks expects to hand out "hundreds of thousands" of free 12-ounce drip coffees (valued at about $1.75 each), says spokeswoman Jenny McCabe. "If everyone who votes comes in for a free cup of coffee, we'll have some lines," she says.

•Doughnuts. Some 85 of Krispy Kreme's 231 locations in the U.S. will hand out star-shaped, red-white-and-blue sprinkled doughnuts "while supplies last," says spokesperson Dana Hughens. The chain will give out about 200,000 doughnuts valued at 99 cents each. "People are definitely talking about the brand as a result of this," she says.

•Ice cream. Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. in each time zone, Ben & Jerry's ice cream shops will hand out single-scoop ice cream cones (a $3.40 value). "What better way to encourage people to be politically active than to give away free ice cream?" asks spokeswoman Liz Brenna.

•Sandwiches. In a local market promotion, several hundred of the nation's 1,400 Chick-fil-A stores will hand out $2.70 chicken sandwiches to adults who show proof that they voted, says spokesman Jerry Johnston.

•Phone calls. Credo Mobile, a wireless company that donates money to progressive causes for calls its customers make, will offer free outbound calls to current customers during polling hours in their states. The cost could be about $250,000, says spokeswoman Becky Bond.

•Discount haircuts. Then, there's Cristophe Schatteman, a top hair stylist known for giving former president Bill Clinton a $200 haircut on Air Force One. His salons in Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, Beverly Hills and Orange County, Calif., will offer all services — including haircuts — at half price today. A $500 haircut from Cristophe will go for $250.

Free Tickets to Belly Up Tavern Show on October 25th!!

I have two free tickets to the Atomic Punks/Blasphemous Guitars show at The Belly Up Tavern on October 25th, read the related Citybeat article below.

From The SD Citybeat Local's Only Section:

When Adam Gimbel (Rookie Card) and his cover band, The Blasphemous Guitars, were tapped by FM-94/9 to back up musicians auditioning for a chance to play on stage with Weezer as part of a promotion, they didn’t realize that they’d soon be on stage themselves. Station officials “were so thankful that they let all four of us be part of the onstage fun with a dozen or so other lucky musicians,” says Gimbel on his MySpace blog. Blasphemous Guitars—under the name Geezer and dressed as old men—played last Friday night at Cox Arena with Rivers Cuomo and crew on the hits “Island in the Sun” and “Beverly Hills.” And while Gimbel said Cuomo was enigmatic, backstage other members of Weezer seemed interested in the geriatric doppelgangers: “Weezer guitarist Brian Bell came in to join us. He kept looking and smiling at us geezers with our toy pianos and slide whistles. Or maybe it was our nurse.”

If you want the tickets, leave a comment that includes some way for me to reach you and coordinate
