Super Funny Movie To Watch from the 90's
It's basically a hilarious, over the top satire on the more serious movie Danergous Minds and the bad inner city conditions of the 90's. It's not too slapstick (little or no fart/poop/ball injury jokes), great 90's references and fashion, that gooey redeeming message in the end and LOTS of laughs. Never hurts to smoke a bowl with your friends before:)
NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH:

Have You Seen?: The Bjork 'Wanderlust' Video
Man this video is something different. I love different espeically when it's also awesome. It was created by two super chill, humble, insanely talented people, Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch. One of them (Sean) is actually a friendquaintance and the two work under the name Encylopedia Pictura. In an interview with the New York Times, they said the video was inspired by some nature laden shroom trips. NICE. The guys told us that Bjork personally called them up after seeing the bomb video they did for Grizzly Bear. Check that video out on the Encylopedia Pictura Website.
Oh I forgot to mention, Wanderlust was meant to be seen in 3D! So get those glasses and head over to their website (only place to view it in 3D) for a real mind trip treat!!

On This Day In History: James Dean Dies
On this day in 1955, movie star James Dean dies at age 24 in a car crash on a California highway. Dean was driving his Porsche 550 Spyder, nicknamed "Little Bastard," headed to a car race in Salinas, California, with his mechanic Rolf Wuetherich, when they were involved in a head-on collision with a car driven by a 23-year-old college student named Donald Turnaspeed. Dean was taken to Paso Robles War Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:59 p.m. Wuetherich, who was thrown from the car, survived the accident and Turnaspeed escaped with minor injuries. No charges were ever filed against him.
James Byron Dean was born February 8, 1931, in Marion, Indiana. He studied drama at the University of California, Los Angeles, before moving to New York City, where he appeared in plays and TV shows and took classes at the Actors Studio with legendary acting coach Lee Strasberg.
Dean rose to stardom in 1955 with his role as Cal Trask in East of Eden. He reportedly beat out Paul Newman for the part. Dean's performance in the film, based on the John Steinbeck novel, earned him a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. It was the first time in Oscar history that an actor was nominated after his death. The young actor's next film was "Rebel Without a Cause," also released in 1955, in which he played a rebellious teen named Jim Stark. The film, which co-starred Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo, turned Dean into the poster boy for disaffected youth and cool. Dean’s final film "Giant," released in 1956 after his death, was an epic tale of a Texas cattle rancher and his family. Dean starred opposite Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson and was nominated posthumously for a second Oscar for his performance as Jett Rink.
Dean's success as an actor enabled him to pursue his passion for racing cars and motorcycles. Despite his short life and brief acting career, he endures as a Hollywood icon. He is buried at Park Cemetery in Fairmount, Indiana, where fans continue to flock to his grave every year. People also pay tribute to Dean at a memorial located near the accident site in Cholame, California.

Historic Bailout Bill Fails in the House, Dow Plunges
Ok, no need to run to the bank with a wheelbarrow and withdraw all your cash but reports say that this was the last chance for the bailout, Congress has already let out. I won't spout off like I know very much about the bailout's impact on the economy and the American People, on positive or negative ends, BUT I know this is going to hurt a bunch of people financially. You can read articles that say this is going be the next Great Depression and articles that say things will pick up soon. Either way, sucks to be in my 20's in such a dark time in America. If you're an Obama Supporter like me though, hope is on the horizon.

On This Day in History: The Tylenol Murders Occur
On this day in 1982, a sick 12-year-old girl in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, unwittingly takes an Extra-Strength Tylenol capsule laced with cyanide poison and dies later that day. She would be one of seven people to die suddenly after taking the popular over-the-counter medication, as the so-called Tylenol murders spread fear across America. The victims, all from the Chicago area, ranged in age from 12 to 35 and included three members of the same family. Johnson & Johnson, the maker of Tylenol, launched a massive recall of its product and offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible. At the time, it was unusual for companies to recall their products.
Turns out the capsules weren't laced at the factory, they were taken off the store shelves, laced and returned. While the Tylenol murders were never solved, the crisis led drug makers to develop tamper-proof packaging, which had been largely nonexistent before the Tylenol Terrorist struck.
It's Raining In San Diego!!
The novelty will never wear off, it's been three months since water has fallen from the skies and hit the beaches, bluffs and streets of our city. Oh that smell...my most favorite, I can't get enough of it. Go outside and run around or put something cozy on, grab a cub of coffee, put on some music from the Northwest and enjoy, the sun will be out before 1 pm I'm sure....

The Urinals, Undergeround Railroad to Candyland at Pink Elephant Tonight
Side A: I saw URTC at The Tower Bar awhile back and was blown away. It's not often you walk into a bar to see a band you've only heard about but never heard and just totally lock down on it! And by lock down I mean dance through every high energy pop punk song and jump up and down cheering after. This band rules, so fun to watch, great songs, catchy and just a whole load of party party time.
Side B: We loved these guys so much we got them to play a house party and built the whole night around them. The party was HEAVILY decorated like Candyland, it took us days and all our friends help. It looked AWESOME!! Then Underground Railroad to Candyland canceled, via text, at 10 PM the night before the party for reasons still unexplained.
PUSSY ASS MOTHERFUCKERS.
Luckily local hero's Tiltwheel and Vena Cava stepped in and we had this balls out party that raged all night long, VERY legit alternative but I still felt burned.
So yea, even though URTC are fucking flaky assholes, they make some of the best punk this side of the millennium.
Check them out tonight at The Pink Elephant (I refuse to call it Bar pink)

McCain Will Participate in Tonight's Debate
Yeah, that's what I THOUGHT McCain! Incidentally on this day in history, the first US debate EVER was held between major party presidential candidates and was shown on television. The presidential hopefuls, John F. Kennedy, a Democratic senator of Massachusetts, and Richard M. Nixon, the vice president of the United States. Apparently the cool, calm, collected and HOT JFK came out the clear winner to Nixon's sweaty, nervous, no makeup, broke down face. Sounds like we got ourselves a similar situation....

Anjelica Huston and Jack Nicholson
They used to be the IT couple of the 70's. Just look at their to die for air...I still think both of them are bad ass. Here's a little juicy tidbit:
The great love of Jack's life was actress Anjelica Huston, whom he met in 1973. Their romance lasted until 1989, when Anjelica learned that actress Rebecca Broussard was pregnant with Jack's baby. "I was in a quandary," Jack quietly explains to PARADE's Dotson Rader. "I knew having a child was a boon to my life, but I was in a wonderful relationship with Anjelica. It was as good as it gets. I immediately told her what was up, and she made the decision for us." The public presumed that Nicholson had dumped Huston for Broussard, a younger woman. The truth is the opposite. "Anjelica's first response was, 'You have to support this woman,' " Nicholson says. "Her second response was to come down to my job and beat the hell out of me. She really beat me up, I tell you. Anjelica can punch! Meanwhile, Rebecca didn't want me to separate from Anjelica. Well, they both have good taste," he says laughing.

On This Day In History: The Little Rock Nine Make History
Under escort from the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division, nine black students enter all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Three weeks earlier, Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus had surrounded the school with National Guard troops to prevent its federal court-ordered racial integration. After a tense standoff, President Dwight D. Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard and sent 1,000 army paratroopers to Little Rock to enforce the court order.
On May 17, 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka that racial segregation in educational facilities was unconstitutional. Five days later, the Little Rock School Board issued a statement saying it would comply with the decision when the Supreme Court outlined the method and time frame in which desegregation should be implemented.

DUH. Clay Aiken Finally Confirms He is Gay
NEW YORK (AP) -- Clay Aiken is finally confirming what many people suspected: He's gay.
"American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken has rarely addressed rumors about his sexuality.
The cover of the latest People magazine shows Aiken holding his infant son, Parker Foster Aiken, with the headline: "Yes, I'm Gay." The cover also has the quote: "I cannot raise a child to lie or hide things." The magazine has an interview with Aiken and confirmed that he was on the cover but refused to release the article until Wednesday. The baby's mother is Aiken's friend and record producer Jaymes Foster.
Aiken, who gained fame as the runner-up on "American Idol" in 2003, rarely addressed the frequent rumors about his sexuality. He said two years ago, "I don't really feel like I have anybody to answer to but myself and God and the people I love."
The multiplatinum singer recently released the CD "On My Way Here" and made his Broadway debut this spring in "Monty Python's Spamalot."

Apes of Wrath, The Luxury, Cold War Kids Casbah Show 9/22
Sarah and I rolled up to The Casbah last night around 9 PM to catch Apes of Wrath. They opened for The Luxury for Tim Pyles' Anti-Monday League night. Only thing was, they were double booked...with The Cold War Kids. Instead of combining everyone together to have a typical 3 band show they charged $7 to get into Anti-Monday then said we'd have to leave and go to the back of the line to get into CWKids who's doors were at 11 PM. WTF??? There was a pretty hearty line waiting when we got there at 9 PM and by 10 PM there were already around 100 in line for a show that had a 225 person capacity. They were forcing us to make a choice between supporting local music or seeing CWkids in a small intimate setting. NOT COOL. Especially for The Casbah, huge proprietor of local music. It's not even like I didn't want to pay twice, I was DOWN for that. But at least give the people who came early to catch Apes and The Luxury the option of staying or maybe have a separate line for us. And then, again, there's the "Why the hell did you not combine the shows, charge a bit more, and make money on all the people drinking till the headliner went on?? There was like 12 people there for the first shows! Weird. Luckily, being a Casbah rat comes with perks and the good men of The Casbah door let us back in to see CWkids before it became the cluster fuck of happy fans that it became.
Apes of Wrath: FUCKING AMAZING. It's been awhile since I've heard new local music that has impressed me. The Apes somehow found a way to marry all the best types of punk in one sound. Pop flowed to post flowed to hardcore flowed to classic seamlessly. They had this INSANE intricate, out of NO WHERE, key/beat change that made me grab my head. Did I mention I was dancing and moving the whole time?? Awesome show, and for whats it's worth it's not just the music that's top notch, these guys are very legit friends. I can't wait for the next show!! Check out at The Beauty Bar with The Death Set and The Lanterns on October 24th!!
The Luxury
: They are blowing up all over the East Coast and I'm bummed their Casbah show had about 15 people at it due to the whole show double booking fiasco. I heard they chose playing that night over doing a high paying black tie gig. But I gotta admit, I wasn't that into it. Sounded like refined Cock Rock.
Cold War Kids
: DAmN. We were like 3 people from the Casbah Stage to see a band I really really love, that's pretty speical. Im into the first album especially, it sounds like nothing else, and how hard is THAT these days? Super Hard. It's soulful minimalism that's done so right it sounds lush and full. The place was packed to the brim and the dancing was going off. At least in the area around me and Sarah. We were both three double cocktails down at this point and just let LOOSE. I haven't danced like that in awhile (ok since Street Scene) and you have to with CWK. Their lead singer( totally looks like Woody Harrelson haha), commands your attention with soulful shouting and he's got this drummer that's just insane, they've got great beats under very well mastered guitar and base lines. They only played three songs from the old album (Hospital Beds, Old St. John, Hang Me out to Dry), the same ones they played two days ago at Street Scene, come on, give a couple more gifts to your fans in the way of visiting the old album a bit more. BUT I did find a few new ones I really liked and that's what CD Release Parties should be about, the new album, the new direction, if there is one. I'm stoked I got the special opportunity to see a new local band Im instantly in love with and check out a growing national band I love in an intimate space. Damn Good Casbah Night, classic, tequila laden, cigarette smoked filled, rock and roll fucking night.

Album Review: TV On The Radio- "Dear Science"
TV on the Radio's follow-up to 2006's Return to Cookie Mountain-- a dense and textural album with an optimistic core-- Dear Science is catchier, but thornier. Musically, it's shit-hot but also brainy and ambivalent, and more engaging for it. TV on the Radio remain a true Event Band, and the sign o' the times they capture here isn't audacious hope, or fierce revolution: it's confusion. They're the house band for a country that has no idea what'll hit it next, and Dear Science is a jagged landscape of self-doubt, Bush-hate, and future-fear. The First Day of Fall Is Here!!
Which means the last day of summer was yesterday. Got a slight aching in my heart. Until I realized the sun would be shining non stop for months to come in this city. And at a more comfortable temperature no less. Fall is my favorite season and even though it's not evidenced by any of the normal glorious changes that other regions experience you can feel it in the air...
R.I.P. Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower's Willy Graves
Truly a dark moment for the SD Music Scene and more. I'm thankful for the pleasure of knowing Willy, even in a small capacity, while he was here. A very sincere, disarming person. Condolences to his friends and family. A tribute show is planned at The Casbah on October 4th.
From the Pitchfork Website:
Willy Graves, onetime bassist for disbanded San Diego noise-punkers The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, has passed away. No cause of death was given.
In a MySpace bulletin entitled "WILLY GRAVES 1980-2008", Graves' former bandmate Brandon Welchez paid tribute to his fallen friend, noting that "Willy brought so much to our band artistically, aesthetically, and in terms of general morale. When the going got tough (and believe me, things would get fucking rough), we could always count on Willy to be the eternal optimist."
Added Brandon, "We discovered so many things together, went through so many things together-- it's unbelievable that he is gone so young. He had a lot more love, humor, and art to give the world. This is everybody's loss."
Thanks to Saxon Baird for the tip.
Street Scene: A Job Well Done
Damn. I thought Street Scene was really fun, well organized, great selection of artists, reasonably priced (both tickets and concessions) and not too crowded. The decision to add younger kids was disappointing until I realized they made up 95% of the people who were dancing. Oh man there was tons of dancing. We ended each night exhausted, sore and in music bliss.
BEST OF FESTIVAL: DEVO. NO fucking lie. It really made you see how music and concerts USED TO BE and how they are now. Devo had a video before their show, costumes, props, really cool stage banter and visual effects. And it isn't like they needed it. This show was one of the most lively put together acts I've ever seen. Who cares if most of them would qualify for the senior discount at Denny's, they fucking ROCKED out and sounded amazing, so put together, so tight. The music was so relevant, it sounded like a lot of the music we had danced to the night before but better. No one could stop dancing. Geez, a huge toast and cheers to DEVO. You guys totally rule.
Best of Runners Up: TV on the Radio, Diplo, Hot Chip, Tegan and Sarah, Justice, The Muslims
Dissapointments:
Man Man: Possibly only because their set was late and we were missing some of the action at Devo to stand around for sound checks.
Cold War Kids: If you know their first album the best and none of their new album you'd be dissapointed too. They gave us only three of their old songs in their set. I fucking went to street scene early that day despite aches and pains so I was a bit pissed.
Cat Power: Do your sound checks before your show, not mid song during every song. That shit is so distracting. If youre not vibing out on your music how can I??

Non stop DANCE PARTY FOR HOURS. Last night was really great. At first I was pissed about underagers being there but one thing they are always good for is keeping the dance party up. I'm proud of you San Diego for keeping those feet moving. Justice was insane and I really regret not seeing Diplo, heard it was so great, we were at TV on The Radio though so fair trade, fair trade. Pink Floyd Member Richard Wright Dies At Age 65
LONDON (AP) -- A Pink Floyd spokesman says founding member Richard Wright has died. He was 65. Wright died Monday after a battle with cancer at his home in Britain. His family did not want to give more details about his death.
Richard Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason at college and joined their early band Sigma 6. Sigma 6 eventually became Pink Floyd and Wright wrote and sang some of the band's key songs. He wrote "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" from Pink Floyd's 1973 "The Dark Side Of The Moon."
He left the group in the early 1980s to form his own band but rejoined Pink Floyd for their 1987 album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason."
-Tribute Suggestions:
-Go shrooming in the forest. Listen to a "Best of Pink Floyd" CD you've put together prior to the trip and laugh at the natural splendor and simplicity of existence.
-Put on The Wizard of Oz, when the lion roars before the movie starts, start Dark Side of the Moon. Supposedly, the songs line up with the action in the movie? Probably best to smoke a bowl before this...
-Listen to the reggae version of Dark Side of The Moon. Seriously, It's called
Dub Side of the Moon and I actually like it better. Smooth, trippy but accessible.

Seattle Mayor Offers Tax Break For Live Music
SEATTLE (AP)-- Seattle claims Quincy Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana and Death Cab for Cutie in its musical history.
It's a tradition Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels says he wants to encourage by proposing an exemption of the 5 percent admissions tax at nightclubs with live music. The exemption would apply to 65 locations in the city and result in a total tax cut next year of $300,000. It's part of the budget the mayor will present Sept. 29 to the city council.
I think what is most sad for me is comparing this simple legislation that furthers culture to legislation in our city. Cabaret License?!?! A license to fucking dance and play records? Its' expensive, limited and hard to get at that. It's so sad. Times are a changing in this city. The old people and the conservatives are claiming it for their own. Shutting down our dives, music, parties, and revelry.....

Best to know your lingo so you can understand why you might start seeing bread lines and soup kitchens set up all over town. Ok, maybe it won't be THAT bad but this is no joke. Even if the stock market doesn't crash, it will probably get worse and things won't heal for a long, long time. Let's start with:
The Fed (Or, The Federal Reserve Bank)
This is not a government sector, office or national bank per say and up until recently I have always thought so. The system was designed out of a compromise between the competing philosophies of privatization and government regulation. While planning the design of the system, some people wanted the system to have generally private aspects whereas others wanted more government involvement. The system that resulted ended up being a compromise between these two philosophies. In the current system, private banks are for-profit businesses but there are restrictions on what they can do. These restrictions placed on private banks are government regulations. The Federal Reserve System is the part of government that regulates the private banks. The balance between privatization and government involvement is also seen in the structure of the system. Private banks elect members of the board of directors at their regional Federal Reserve Bank while the members of the Board of Governors are selected by the President of The United States and confirmed by the Senate. The private banks give input to the government officials about their economic situation and these government officials use this input in Federal Reserve policy decisions. In the end, private banking businesses are able to freely run a profitable business while the U.S. government, through the Federal Reserve System, oversees and regulates the activities of the private banks. Great. Wish it worked. Check out the scary chart below....

Camel Crush: New Crazy Cigarette
I've gotta hand it to Camel, they are always coming out with new cigs to keep us smoking and interested. I LOVE their Turkish Silvers, glad those stuck around. The No. 9's totally blow, they quit out half way through the damn thing. I'm sure the Camel promoters will be at a bar near you with this new one, The Camel Crush. It's basically a customizable cigarette that contains a small blue menthol capsule in the filter. By squeezing the filter before or while smoking the cigarette, a small blue capsule is crushed and releases chemicals into your filter, transforming a regular cigarette into a menthol one in a matter of moments. You can go light on the flavor of full force. Too be fair, these were tested in Japan first and then Camel put their own spin on it. I have one friend who loves menthols and I don't so now maybe we can split a cig? I dunno, sounds like the novelty is gonna wear off this one pretty damn quick. I've got coupons from my good friends at Camel if you want to try these!!
